Articulated Ironman Helmet
3D printed Ironman articulated helmet
Ironman was one of my childhood infatuations and one of the very reasons I got into engineering and robotics. Having purchased a 3D printer around summer 2021, I decided to build an articulated Ironman helmet.
The helmet was designed by BoxandLoop (Iron Man Helmet, Articulated, Wearable by Boxandloop - Thingiverse) and the design files were available for free on Thingiverse. I scaled the model files to my head size and printed the parts in grey PLA. The parts have alignment holes which can be secured together using pins or in my case tiny self-threading fasteners. I used an Arduino Nano Every and 2 servo motors to actuate the faceplate. I wrote my own source code to automate the articulation. The faceplate first lights up and then opens, waits for 5 seconds and closes again. I did not paint my first build since I wanted it to resemble the MK II helmet. I did another iteration in color which resembles the MK III
